Broke & About

April 22, 2026

The AfroDiaspora Connection is back for its third year, and this time it’s bringing one of the most exciting names in global jazz to Southern Africa: Kokoroko.

Set to run from 23 May to 3 June 2026, the multi-city cultural exchange will once again connect Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Eswatini through a series of live performances, collaborations, and community-driven moments. But this year feels bigger — and more intentional — with a lineup led by a band that has become synonymous with the modern Afro-jazz movement.

A Cultural Bridge, Not Just a Tour

The AfroDiaspora Connection is a collaboration between The Dig Global (South Africa) and Jazz re:freshed (UK), two platforms deeply rooted in nurturing alternative music scenes and cross-continental exchange.

More than just a series of shows, the initiative creates space for artists and audiences to connect, collaborate, and grow. It’s about shared sounds, shared stories, and building something that lasts beyond a single night.

Dates to Lock In

  • Cape Town — 23 May 2026
  • Eswatini — 29–30 May 2026
  • Soweto Equestrian Center, Johannesburg — 31 May 2026
  • The Old Biscuit Mill, Cape Town (Finale) — 3 June 2026

The Johannesburg stop is already shaping up to be a standout, with Kokoroko joined by Summer Pearl, Zola Marcelle, and guests at the Soweto Equestrian Center.

Why Kokoroko Matters

If you know, you know. Kokoroko has built a global following by blending Afrobeat, jazz, and soul into something deeply rooted yet forward-looking. Their sound feels like home and discovery at the same time — which makes them a perfect fit for what AfroDiaspora Connection represents.
