Flying Fish Said Goodbye to Summer the Only Way It Knows How

If there’s one thing about Flying Fish, it’s that they don’t just throw events but they set tone. And Goodbye Summer 2026 at the Old Park Station was exactly that: a perfectly timed, high-energy reminder of why they continue to own the summer conversation in Jo'burg.

Let’s talk about the timing: a full weekend of sunshine, great music, and even better vibes… only for the rain to pull in on Monday morning? We’re not saying the weather was booked and confirmed, but it definitely felt like it.

At the centre of it all was the music — intentional, well-paced, and built for the kind of crowd that actually came to dance.

MduAkaTRP got things going with a set that eased everyone in, but still carried enough bounce to set the standard. Then came the back-to-back we’re still talking about, Stixx and Sam Deep locked in and didn’t let up. It was one of those sets where you look up and suddenly everyone’s moving in sync, just pure energy.

Sun-El Musician brought in that signature, almost spiritual feel, the kind of set that reminds you why he’s in a lane of his own, before DBN Gogo stepped in and did what she does best. And let’s not forget, this is someone who had just came off a record-breaking 24-hour set the weekend before… and still showed up like that. Elite stamina.

But what really makes Flying Fish events land is everything around the music.

This year’s football-inspired concept could’ve easily been gimmicky but it wasn’t. It felt current, it felt local, and it felt like Jo'burg. With Bafana Bafana back in the chat and the FIFA World Cup conversation building, the jersey culture, the interactive football activations, the competitive energy, it all just worked. People weren’t just attending; they were in it. Balls flying, beers in hand, groups locked into their own little tournaments, a proper day out.

And then, the unsung hero of any good event: the bar.

Quick. Efficient. No chaos. No missing your favourite DJ because you’re stuck in a queue. It sounds small, but it’s the difference between a good event and a great one. Add to that the fact that you’re not breaking the bank just to have a good time, and it makes sense why Flying Fish continues to sit comfortably at the top of the “where should we go?” group chat debates.

It’s curated, but not try-hard. Premium, but still accessible. Fun, without losing its edge.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, Flying Fish doesn’t move like everyone else. And that’s exactly why Goodbye Summer continues to feel like the only send-off that matters.

Now we wait for what they do next.
